Hymn
Wake now, my senses, and hear the earth call;
feel the deep power of being in all;
keep, with the web of creation your vow,
giving, receiving as love shows us how.

Wake now, my reason, reach out to the new,
join with each pilgrim who quests for the true;
honour the beauty and wisdom of time;
suffer your limit, and praise the sublime.

Wake now, compassion, give heed to the cry;
voices of suffering fill the wide sky;
take as your neighbour both stranger and friend,
praying and striving their hardship to end.

Wake now, my conscience, with justice your guide;
join with all people whose rights are denied;
take not for granted a privileged place;
God's love embraces the whole human race.

Wake now, my vision of ministry clear;
brighten my pathway with radiance here;
mingle my calling with all who will share;
work toward a planet transformed by our care.

Call to Worship
One:  In the beginning, God made the world:
Women:  Made it and mothered it,
Men:  Shaped it and fathered it,
Women:  Filled it with seed and signs of fertility,
Men:  Filled it with love and its folk with ability.
One:  All that is tender, firm, fragrant and curious,
All:  God's is the hand that created you.
One:  All that speaks, sings, cries, laughs or keeps silent,
All:  God's is the hand that created you.
One:  The world belongs to Creativity God
All:  The earth and all its people.

Please be seated

Psalm 17
One, then all:  Keep me as the apple of your eye, and hide me in the shelter of your wings.

One:  Hear a just cause, O Lord; attend to my cry; give ear to my prayer from lips free of deceit.
From you let my vindication come; let your eyes see the right.

All:  Keep me as the apple of your eye, and hide me in the shelter of your wings.

One:  If you try my heart, if you visit me by night, if you test me, you will find no wickedness in me; my mouth does not transgress.
As for what others do, by the word of your lips I have avoided the ways of the violent.
My steps have held fast to your paths; my feet have not slipped.

All:  Keep me as the apple of your eye, and hide me in the shelter of your wings.

One:  I call upon you, for you will answer me, O God; incline your ear to me, hear my words.
Wondrously show your steadfast love, O savior of those who seek refuge from their adversaries at your right hand.

One:  Guard me as the apple of the eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings,
from the wicked who despoil me, my deadly enemies who surround me.
They close their hearts to pity; with their mouths they speak arrogantly.
They track me down; now they surround me; they set their eyes to cast me to the ground.
They are like a lion eager to tear, like a young lion lurking in ambush.

All:  Keep me as the apple of your eye, and hide me in the shelter of your wings.

One:  Rise up, O Lord, confront them, overthrow them! By your sword deliver my life from the wicked,
from mortals—by your hand, O Lord— from mortals whose portion in life is in this world. May their bellies be filled with what you have stored up for them; may their children have more than enough; may they leave something over to their little ones.

All:  Keep me as the apple of your eye, and hide me in the shelter of your wings.

One:  As for me, I shall behold your face in righteousness; when I awake I shall be satisfied, beholding your likeness.

All:  Keep me as the apple of your eye, and hide me in the shelter of your wings.

Prayer of Confession
NOT ON PPT

Let us pray.
 Open our hearts, O God of glory,
 to the presence of your Spirit.
 Hear our songs of praise and the quiet yearnings of our souls,
 and feed us again through word and sign. Amen.
 Let us call to mind our sins.

—silent reflection—

One: God of all creation,
 we have wasted your gifts and squandered our inheritance.
 Have mercy on us.
All: Have mercy on us.

One: God of saving grace,
 we have turned away from your message of peace and love.
 Have mercy on us.
All: Have mercy on us.

One: God of new life,
 we have forgotten that in you all things are possible.
 Have mercy on us.
All: Have mercy on us.

—silent reflection—

One: Jesus Christ came into the world to free us from despair.
 Hear then, these words of grace:
 “Your sins are forgiven.”
All: Amen. Thanks be to God.

Please stand, all who are able.

Song of Praise
//I ‘ve got a crown up in-a the Kingdom
Ain’t-a that good news.//
I’m going to lay down this world
Going to shoulder up my cross
Goin’ to take it home to Jesus
Ain’t-a that good news

//I ‘ve got a harp up in-a the Kingdom
Ain’t-a that good news.//
I’m going to lay down this world
Going to shoulder up my cross
Goin’ to take it home to Jesus
Ain’t-a that good news

//I ‘ve  got a robe up in-a the Kingdom
Ain’t-a that good news.//
I’m going to lay down this world
Going to shoulder up my cross
Goin’ to take it home to Jesus
Ain’t-a that good news

//I ‘ve got a Savior in-a the Kingdom
Ain’t-a that good news.//
I’m going to lay down this world
Going to shoulder up my cross
Goin’ to take it home to Jesus
Ain’t-a that good news

Most wonderful God, in you there are always more blessings than we can imagine. Please give to us that generous spirit that places all that we have at your disposal. Then by the love of Christ, let it be multiplied in ways we cannot measure or control. For the welfare of humanity and the glory of your name. Through Jesus our Lord.
Amen!

Gospel Acclamation

Gospel Reading
Matthew 14:13-21
NOT ON PPT

Now when Jesus heard of the murder of John the Baptizer, he withdrew in a boat to a deserted place by himself. But when the crowds heard it, they followed him on foot from the towns. When he went ashore, he saw a great crowd; and he had compassion for them and cured their sick. When it was evening, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a deserted place, and the hour is now late; send the crowds away so that they may go into the villages and buy food for themselves.” Jesus said to them, “They need not go away; you give them something to eat.” They replied, “We have nothing here but five loaves and two fish.” And he said, “Bring them here to me.” Then he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven, and blessed and broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. And all ate and were filled; and they took up what was left over of the broken pieces, twelve baskets full. And those who ate were about five thousand women and children, besides men.

Song
1.  You are salt for the earth, O people:
salt for the reign of God!
Share the flavor of life, O people:
life in the City of God.
Bring forth the reign of mercy,
bring forth the reign of peace;
bring forth the reign of justice,
bring forth the City of God!

2.  You are a light on a hill, O people:
light for the City of God!
Shine so holy and bright, O people:
shine for the City of God.
Bring forth the reign of mercy,
bring forth the reign of peace;
bring forth the reign of justice,
bring forth the City of God!

3.  You are a seed of the Word, O people:
bring forth the reign of God!
Seeds of mercy and seeds of justice
grow in the City of God.
Bring forth the reign of mercy,
bring forth the reign of peace;
bring forth the reign of justice,
bring forth the City of God!

4.  We are a blessed and a pilgrim people:
bound for the reign of God!
Love our journey and love our homeland:
love is the City of God!
Bring forth the reign of mercy,
bring forth the reign of peace;
bring forth the reign of justice,
bring forth the City of God!

A Litany: Word Made Flesh
One:  God speaks!
with excitement!
with enthusiasm!
with new life!
All:  God is present!
God is with us!
nothing can separate us!
One:  Even when we feel unsure,
unclear,
confused,
even when we feel broken to the core of our being -
All:  We hold fast to God's love,
God's acceptance,
we are always welcome in God's household.
One:  We will each, once again,
feel like a well-watered garden.
Full of life!
Radiant in the sun!
All:  It will be good.
It is good.

Song
1.  God has laid a feasting table.
All her guests are gathered round.
From the highways and the byways
all the lost have now been found.
//When we hear the invitation
will we lay our burdens down?//

2.  At this table all are welcome.
No one need be left behind.
God is greater than our difference.
Christ can see where we are blind.
//When we hear the invitation
will we love all humankind?//

3.  God is crying out for justice.
Christ is weeping in the street.
When will be the time for laughter?
When will all have food to eat?
//When we hear the invitation
will we make God’s will complete?//
