Hymn
1. Praise to God, the world’s creator,
source of life and
growth and breath,
cradling in her arms her
children,
holding them from birth
to death.
In our bodies, in our
living,
strength and truth of
all we do,
God is present, working
with us,
making us creators too.
2. Praise to God our saving wisdom,
meeting us with love and
grace,
helping us to grow in
wholeness,
giving freedom, room and
space.
In our hurting, in our
risking,
in the thoughts we dare
not name,
God is present, growing
with us,
healing us from sin and
shame.
3. Praise to God, Spirit in us,
prompting hidden depths
of prayer,
firing us to long for
justice,
reaching out with tender
care.
In our searching, in our
loving,
in our struggles to be
free,
God is present, living
in us,
pointing us to what
shall be.
Call to Worship
One: The
smallest thing, under the influence of God,
is made infinitely precious and eternal.
If we come to worship focusing on our needs,
All: we will go away feeling let down.
One: If we
come wanting a God made in our own likeness,
All: we will be disappointed.
One: If we
come rigid in our ideas and set in our ways,
All: we will leave as barren as we arrived.
One: If we
put God first,
All: we shall never worship in vain.
One: Listen
to this, you people of God:
The
Lord your God is One
and
you shall love the Lord your God
with
all your heart
with
all your mind
and
with all your strength.

Song
All:
All you who are thirsty,
come to the water;
all you who hunger,
come receive grain;
all without money,
come without paying;
all you who heed me,
come for rich fare.
Cantor:
Come now and listen that
you may have life;
my covenant I will
renew,
this covenant shall be
eternal,
as I promised to David.
All:
All you who are thirsty,
come to the water;
all you who hunger,
come receive grain;
all without money,
come without paying;
all you who heed me,
come for rich fare.
Cantor:
Why spend your money for
what is not bread,
your wages for what
fails to satisfy?
Heed my commandments and
you shall eat well;
you shall delight in
rich fare.
All:
All you who are thirsty,
come to the water;
all you who hunger,
come receive grain;
all without money,
come without paying;
all you who heed me,
come for rich fare.
Cantor:
Drink of this water
abundant with life
and eat of the bread I
provide.
I am the bread and the
water am I;
put hunger and thirsting
aside.
All:
All you who are thirsty,
come to the water;
all you who hunger,
come receive grain;
all without money,
come without paying;
all you who heed me,
come for rich fare.
Prayer of Confession
One:
In the Name of the Creator, the Redeemer, and the Sustainer.
All: Amen
One:
The Holy One calls for our repentance.
O God...
All: you send
your prophets and your word
you call us to repent,
yet we wait for our feelings of
regret before listening.
You place us into communities of faith
to share our mutual witness,
but we insist on our own selfish
ways.
You promise us great reward for lives of
discipleship
so we set our sights on a heavenly treasure
and overlook living our faith
daily.
Forgive us Lord the sins we know in our hearts.
Save us Lord from the sins we hide from ourselves.
—silent reflection—
One:
God’s love is established forever. God rescues us from impurity and iniquity
through our Savior: Jesus Christ. For Christ's sake our sins are forgiven.
Christ set us free from sin so that we may become obedient from our heart. The
Holy Spirit sanctifies us and we may present ourselves to God as instruments of
righteousness. To the glory of the name of God: Creator, Redeemer, Sustainer.
All: Amen.
One:
The peace of God be with you always!
All: And also
with you!
Please stand, all who are able.

Reading from Hebrew
Scripture
Jeremiah 28:5-9
NOT ON PPT
Then the prophet Jeremiah spoke to the prophet
Hananiah in the presence of the priests and all the people who were standing in
the house of God; and the prophet Jeremiah said, “Amen! May the Holy
One do so; may God fulfill the words that you have prophesied, and bring
back to this place from Babylon the vessels of the house of God, and all the
exiles. But listen now to this word that I speak in your hearing and in
the hearing of all the people. The prophets who preceded you and me from
ancient times prophesied war, famine, and pestilence against many countries and
great kingdoms. As for the prophet who prophesies peace, when the word of
that prophet comes true, then it will be known that the Holy One has
truly sent the prophet.”

Gospel Reading
Matthew 10:40-42
NOT ON PPT
Jesus spoke, and said: “Whoever welcomes you welcomes me, and
whoever welcomes me welcomes the One who sent me. Whoever welcomes a
prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward; and whoever
welcomes a righteous person in the name of a righteous person will receive the
reward of the righteous; and whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one
of these little ones in the name of a disciple—truly I tell you, none of these
will lose their reward.”

A prophet’s journey
Please stand, all who are able.
Song
Welcome all you noble saints of old,
As now before your very eyes unfold
The wonders all so long ago foretold.
//In Christ there is a table set for all.//
Elders, martyrs, all are falling down;
Prophets, patriarchs are gath’ring round,
What angels longed to see now we have found.
//In Christ there is a table set for all.//
Beggars, lame, and harlots also here;
Repentant publicans are drawing near;
Wayward ones come home without a fear.
//In Christ there is a table set for all.//
Who is this who spreads the vict’ry feast?
Who is this who makes our warring cease?
Jesus, Risen Savior, Prince of Peace.
//In Christ there is a table set for all.//
When at last this earth shall pass away,
When Jesus and his church are one to stay,
The feast of love is just begun that day.
//In Christ there is a table set for all.//
Affirmation
All: I
believe in the God of Abraham and Jesus,
of
sinner and saint, doubter and believer.
I believe in God who does not require costly
offerings,
but
love, loyalty and truth.
I believe in God who loves our dear Ones
better
than we can ever love them,
yet
asks us to put them second,
so
that we may better love them.
I believe in the God of love, mercy and peace,
whom
to serve is perfect freedom.
I believe that what I believe today is only a
fraction
of
the glory that is to come.

Song
1. When the poor ones who have nothing share
with strangers,
when the thirsty water
give unto us all,
when the crippled in
their weakness strengthen others,
then we know that God
still goes that road with us,
then we know that God
still goes that road with us.
2. When at last all those who suffer find their
comfort,
when they hope though
even hope seems hopelessness,
when we love though hate
at times seems all around us,
then we know that God
still goes that road with us,
then we know that God
still goes that road with us.
3. When our joy fills up our cup to overflowing,
when our lips can speak
no words other than true,
when we know that love
for simple things is better,
then we know that God
still goes that road with us,
then we know that God
still goes that road with us.
4. When our homes are filled with goodness in
abundance,
when we learn how to
make peace instead of war,
when each stranger that
we meet is called a neighbor,
then we know that God
still goes that road with us,
then we know that God
still goes that road with us.

Hymn
My hope is built on
nothing less
than Jesus’ love and
righteousness;
I dare not trust this
earthly frame,
but wholly lean on Jesus’
name.
On Christ, the solid Rock,
I stand;
all other ground is
sinking sand,
all other ground is
sinking sand.
When shadows veil my
Savior’s face,
I rest upon unchanging
grace;
in every high and stormy
gale,
my anchor holds within the
veil.
On Christ, the solid Rock,
I stand;
all other ground is
sinking sand,
all other ground is
sinking sand.
Christ’s oath and covenant
and blood
support me in the rising
flood;
when all around my soul
gives way,
Christ then is all my hope
and stay.
On Christ, the solid Rock,
I stand;
all other ground is
sinking sand,
all other ground is
sinking sand.
When Christ shall come
with trumpet sound,
oh, may I then in Love be
found,
dressed in God’s
righteousness alone,
faultless to stand before
the throne.
On Christ, the solid Rock,
I stand;
all other ground is
sinking sand,
all other ground is
sinking sand.
