When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability.

Vivían en Jerusalén judíos cumplidores de sus deberes religiosos, que habían venido de todas partes del mundo.La gente se reunió al oír aquel ruido, y no sabía qué pensar, porque cada uno oía a los creyentes hablar en su propia lengua. Eran tales su sorpresa y su asombro, que decían:

—¿Acaso no son galileos todos estos que están hablando? ¿Cómo es que los oímos hablar en nuestras propias lenguas? Aquí hay gente de Partia, de Media, de Elam, de Mesopotamia, de Judea, de Capadocia, del Ponto y de la provincia de Asia, de Frigia y de Panfilia, de Egipto y de las regiones de Libia cercanas a Cirene. Hay también gente de Roma que vive aquí; unos son judíos de nacimiento y otros se han convertido al judaísmo. También los hay venidos de Creta y de Arabia. ¡Y los oímos hablar en nuestras propias lenguas de las maravillas de Dios!

Todos estaban asombrados y sin saber qué pensar; y se preguntaban:

—¿Qué significa todo esto?

Pero algunos, burlándose, decían:

—¡Es que están borrachos!

But Peter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and addressed them, “Judeans and all who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to what I say. Indeed, these are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only nine o’clock in the morning. No, this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel: ‘In the last days it will be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young women and men shall see visions, and your old women and men shall dream dreams. Even upon my slaves in those days I will pour out my Spirit; and they shall prophesy. And I will show portents in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood, and fire, and smoky mist. The sun shall be turned to darkness and the moon to blood, before the coming of the Holy One’s great and glorious day. Then everyone who calls on the name of the Holy One shall be saved.’

Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven living in Jerusalem. Parthians, Medes, Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabs—in our own languages we hear them speaking about God’s deeds of power.” All were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “What does this mean?” But others sneered and said, “They are filled with new wine.”

Uno/a + One: Eterno Dios, Tu alimentas y mantienes todas las seres vivientes por medio del regalo del agua. Al principio de los tiempos tu Espíritu se movía sobre el caos acuoso, y llamaste la vida. Tú liberaste a Israel de la esclavitud a través de las aguas hacia la libertad de la tierra prometida. En las aguas del Jordán, Jesús fue bautizado por juan y ungido con tu espíritu. Por el bautismo de su muerte y resurrección Cristo nos libero del pecado y de la muerte y nos abrió el camino a la vida eterna. Dios, te damos gracias por las aguas del bautismo, en ella somos enterrados con Cristo en su muerte, de ellas compartimos su resurrección y a través de ellas renacemos por el poder del Espíritu Santo.

Send your Spirit to move over this water that it may be a fountain of deliverance and rebirth. Wash away the sin of the one who is cleansed by it. Raise him to new life and graft him to the body of Christ. Pour out your Holy Spirit upon her, that she may have power to do your will and continue forever in the risen life of Christ. To you, our creator, savior and comforter, one God, be all praise, honor and glory, Amen.

One + Uno/a: Eternal God, you nourish and sustain all living things by the gift of water. In the beginning of time, your Spirit moved over the watery chaos, calling forth life. You led Israel out of slavery, through the waters of the sea, into the freedom of the promised land. In the waters of the Jordan, Jesus was baptized by John and anointed with your Spirit. By the baptism of his own death and resurrection, Christ set us free from sin and death, and opened the way to eternal life. We thank you God, for the water of Baptism. In it we are buried with Christ in his death, from it we are raised to share in his resurrection. Through it we are reborn by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Envía tu Espíritu para moverse sobre estas aguas y que pueda ser fuente de liberación y un nuevo nacimiento, lava el pecado y levántalo a una nueva vida e injértalo en el cuerpo de Cristo.
