Hymn
Christ has changed the world's direction!
Christ can change the human heart:
agents of the new creation
mend the people torn apart;
               so are we
               charged to be
go-betweens for unity.

Peace will be our way of thinking:
common wealth and common state.
Gone the wounds, the words and weapons
that conspire to hurt and hate,
               and no power
               shall devour
earth or air where peace might flower.

Debts and doubts will be forgiven,
cancelled in the name of God,
olive trees again be planted
there where soldiers' boots have trod,
               hunger fed,
               terror fled,
justice shining in its stead.

What have we as commendation,
sent to speak, as speak we must?
Love will be our global language,
hands an enemy can trust,
               faith to faith,
               race with race,
all shall find a meeting place.

Envoys of a High Commission,
gifts of hope we find to share,
Christ the Spirit reconciling,
Christ our internet of care.
               Though we stall,
               fail or fall,
shall we now refuse God's call?

Call to Worship
One:  Before time existed and the universe began its long unfolding,
God was God.
All:  When the stars were finding their places, and planets their orbits,
God was God.
One:  When the earth took shape and life came in splendid profusion,
God was God.
All:  When Abraham and Sarah began their journey of faith,
God was God.
One:  When Jesus came among us, bearing and living the Gospel of peace,
God was God.
All:  When tomorrow you look back and remember today, you can say,
God was God
.
One:  The holy One, the most beautiful One, the most merciful One,
whom the human mind cannot comprehend, was before the beginning,
will be after the end, and fills ever present moment with Presence and Purpose.

Let us worship God.

Song
All you who are thirsty,
come to the water;
all you who hunger,
come receive grain;
all without money,
come without paying;
all you who heed me,
come for rich fare.

Cantor:
Come now and listen that you may have life;
my covenant I will renew,
this covenant shall be eternal,
as I promised to David.

All:
All you who are thirsty,
come to the water;
all you who hunger,
come receive grain;
all without money,
come without paying;
all you who heed me,
come for rich fare.

Cantor:
Why spend your money for what is not bread,
your wages for what fails to satisfy?
Heed my commandments and you shall eat well;
you shall delight in rich fare.

All:
All you who are thirsty,
come to the water;
all you who hunger,
come receive grain;
all without money,
come without paying;
all you who heed me,
come for rich fare.

Cantor:
Drink of this water abundant with life
and eat of the bread I provide.
I am the bread and the water am I;
put hunger and thirsting aside.

All:
All you who are thirsty,
come to the water;
all you who hunger,
come receive grain;
all without money,
come without paying;
all you who heed me,
come for rich fare.

Prayer of Confession
NOT ON PPT

God is always more eager to forgive than we are to confess.

Let us pray.

One:  Your generosity is extravagant, Jesus;
your grace and mercy so freely given,
your love and presence so readily available,
your Spirit and strength so reliable.

All:  We are so grateful for all of these blessings that we enjoy,
and for the goodness they bring into our lives;
we praise you for your always coming Kingdom,
and the abundant life it offers.

One:  But, Jesus, we are also fearful,
that your gifts may not be enough,
that things may change
and we may find ourselves in need,
and so we hoard your goodness,
and separate ourselves from others;

All:  Forgive us for our little faith,
and our selfish grasping;
forgive us for our failure to understand
that your blessings are always meant to be shared;
teach us to stay always awake to your coming,
and always ready to invite others in
to the blessings you so freely share with us.

—silent reflection—

One:  In Jesus’ Name
All:  Amen.

Please stand, all who are able.

Song of Praise
Glory to God, whose goodness shines on me,
and to the Son, whose grace has pardoned me,
and to the Spirit, whose love has set me free.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be.  Amen.

///World without end, without end.  Amen.///
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be.  Amen.

Prayer
NOT ON PPT

Most wonderful God, in you there are always more blessings than we can imagine. Please give to us that generous spirit that places all that we have at your disposal. Then by the love of Christ, let it be multiplied in ways we cannot measure or control. For the welfare of humanity and the glory of your name. Through Jesus our Lord.
Amen!

Poem:  Logos
by Mary Oliver

NOT ON PPT

Why worry about the loaves and fishes?
If you say the right words, the wine expands.
If you say them with love
and the felt ferocity of that love
and the felt necessity of that love,
the fish explode into many.
Imagine him, speaking,
and don’t worry about what is reality,
or what is plain, or what is mysterious.
If you were there, it was all those things.
If you can imagine it, it is all those things.
Eat, drink, be happy.
Accept the miracle.
Accept, too, each spoken word
spoken with love.

Please stand, all who are able.

Gospel Acclamation

Gospel Reading
Luke9:10-17

NOT ON PPT

On their return the apostles told Jesus all they had done. He took them with him and withdrew privately to a city called Bethsaida. When the crowds found out about it, they followed him; and he welcomed them, and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who needed to be cured. The day was drawing to a close, and the twelve came to him and said, “Send the crowd away, so that they may go into the surrounding villages and countryside, to lodge and get provisions; for we are here in a deserted place.” But he said to them, “You give them something to eat.” They said, “We have no more than five loaves and two fish—unless we are to go and buy food for all these people.”  For there were about five thousand people. And he said to his disciples, “Make them sit down in groups of about fifty each.” They did so and made them all sit down. And taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven, and blessed and broke them, and gave them to the disciples to set before the crowd. And all ate and were filled. What was left over was gathered up, twelve baskets of broken pieces.

Sermon

Please stand, all who are able.

Song
1.  When the poor ones who have nothing share with strangers,
when the thirsty water give unto us all,
when the crippled in their weakness strengthen others,
then we know that God still goes that road with us,
then we know that God still goes that road with us.

2.  When at last all those who suffer find their comfort,
when they hope though even hope seems hopelessness,
when we love though hate at times seems all around us,
then we know that God still goes that road with us,
then we know that God still goes that road with us.

3.  When our joy fills up our cup to overflowing,
when our lips can speak no words other than true,
when we know that love for simple things is better,
then we know that God still goes that road with us,
then we know that God still goes that road with us.

4.  When our homes are filled with goodness in abundance,
when we learn how to make peace instead of war,
when each stranger that we meet is called a neighbor,
then we know that God still goes that road with us,
then we know that God still goes that road with us.

Affirmation: A simple choice
One:  It's a simple choice, really,
one that should be easy.

Do we create need -
Building our lives around a void
that we feed and feed,
but is never satisfied;
Storing more than we will ever use,
to silence our fear,
while ignoring the cries of those we have left empty?

Or

Do we create plenty -
Finding satisfaction in enough,
finding joy in what can't be owned
and life in what is not for sale;
Seeking to share life and joy and food and wealth,
so that these blessings are multiplied,
and celebrated.

All:  Teach us, Jesus, in our homes and families,
our communities and neighborhoods,
our countries and continents,
to always make the simple choice
to create plenty
wherever and however we may.

Amen.

Song
In times so full of pain, so deeply troubled
by hatred and injustice, fear and dread,
some wander endless streets, alone and hungry;
they look for life, a chance to earn their bread.
To you we pray in protest and in crisis,
for you have always sided with the poor:
unite our hands with yours, O God of justice,
that those who hunger live in want no more.
For daily food brings justice,
brings dignity and gladness,
a guarantee of peace in every creed.
May we, O God, now labor
with love for every neighbor
that all may have this day their daily bread.

Prayer of Thanksgiving

Hymn
1.  God gives us a future
daring us to go
into dreams and dangers
on a path unknown.
We will face tomorrow
in the Spirit's power
we will let God change us
for new life starts now.

2.  We must leave behind us
sins of yesterday
for God's new beginning
is a better way.
Fear and doubt and habit
must not hold us back:
God gives hope, and insight
and the strength we lack.

3.  Holy Spirit, teach us
how to read the signs
how to meet the challenge
of our troubled times.
Love us into action
stir us into prayer
till we choose God's life, and
find our future there.

Song
1.  In the midst of every blessing
may my heart be filled with grace.
Streams of goodness, ever flowing
call for songs of highest praise.
May my words be filled with gratitude;
may my glad heart humble be.
As a holder of a blessing
May I share it gratefully.

2.  In the midst of every trial
may my heart be filled with grace.
Streams of comfort, ever flowing
call for songs of highest praise.
May I find the strength within me;
may I sense it everywhere.
As I face what must be handled
may I find truth I can share.

3.  In the midst of all our living
may our hearts be filled with grace.
Streams of goodness ever flowing
call for songs of highest praise.
May we seek and find encouragement;
may our choices worthy be.
As we journey on together,
may we know integrity.
