12.06.17 Ordinary 11B/Father's Day Reflection

Evoked by Matthew 1:18-25 and the sermon Christmas as Father's Day

Carpenter Joseph

Being a just person,
he wanted things ended
discreetly,
not drawing attention
to the girl’s condition
or her shame.

Being a person of faith,
he entertained the word
of angels,
and so risked himself
to the sniggers and sneers
of neighbours.

Being a good carpenter,
he served the public well
by daylight,
and in the evening hours
shaped and polished a cot
for God’s sake.
